Rio Hondo Wrestling season is previewed

The Rio Hondo men's wrestling team is back and ready to get down on the mat for the 2011 season. Head coach Mike Tellez is in his sixth season as the Rio Hondo head wrestling coach. The Rio Hondo wrestling team has a roster of 40 men, including 10 returning wrestlers. The wrestling program is entering its second year at the Southwest Conference after previously competing in the Western State Conference a couple of years ago.

Women’s volleyball team 2011 preview

"A fantastic year", were the words used to describe the women's volleyball 2010 season by head coach Teddi Esko. The team progressed after each game which helped them take second place in the Foothill Conference.  Team unity built over the summer and regular season was crucial to their success.

The Roadrunners take off at the Ventura Invitational

The Rio Hondo Cross Country team participated in the Ventura Invitational Sep. 3. The cross country team was represented well with only five runners being cleared to compete. Sophomore captain Kim Dominguez finished second overall in the women's 500 meters with a time of 18:36:22. The climax of the race came in the last 10 to 15 meters. Dominguez and Ruth Rodarte (18:31:53) from LA Trade Tech exchanged leads back and forth until the final dash to the finish line.

Men’s Soccer team kicks off season

The Rio Hondo's men's  soccer team started their season on the right foot with a 2-1 victory over Santa Ana College Aug. 30. The roadrunners displayed an attacking mentality for a majority of the first half. However, Rio Hondo was not able to get through the defensive wall set up by Santa Ana.

  • Basketball J'Qauandrei Ellis Battle of the Roadrunners

    It was a Roadrunner eat Roadrunner type of match on Feb. 8. The Rio Hondo gym hosted a men's basketball Foothill Conference match-up against College of the Deserts (COD) Roadrunners. Even though Rio had hecklers from COD in the bleachers, they still managed to walk away with a win, 86-80.

  • Bryce Rutherford Rio battles but comes up short against Canyons

    Rio Hondo's baseball team's first three games of the season are against teams ranked in the top 20 of Southern California. They matched up against number 11 ranked Canyons College on Feb. 4 at Rio and lost in a nail biter, 7-6.

  • Giants win Super Bowl 21-17

    A replication of a championship

     

    The New York Giants were able to replicate their magic championship run of 2008 by, once again, beating Tom Brady and the New England Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI to create another chapter in what has become a rivalry match-up for these two storied franchises. The Giants' defense was responsible for the first score of the game by pressuring Brady into an intentional grounding penalty inside New England's end zone to make the score 2-0 in the first quarter.
