    The Dirty Birds of Rio Hondo advanced to the CCCAA Baseball State Championship after defeating Santa Ana 8-2 on Sunday's Bracket B Super Regionals Championship held at RHC.

    As the tennis season is slowly coming to an end, the Rio Hondo women’s team has truly exceeded expectations. The team has defeated all of the colleges in their conference including Antelope Valley, Mt. San Jacinto, Victor Valley College, and College of the Desert.

    Rio Hondo women’s tennis team successfully defeated Mt. San Jacinto on March 15, contributing towards their current undefeated record in the Foothill Conference (4-0).

    The Lady Roadrunners had a tough start to their Foothill Conference play. They started with a 1-3 record which brings their season record to 8-13. All of their games were very competitive all the way to the very end. Their three losses came against Mt. San Jacinto 4-7, Chaffey 7-8 and College of the Desert 1-4 with their one victory coming against San Bernardino Valley 18-11.

    Baseball team leads conference race

    Rio Hondo College's men's baseball team, leading the Foothill Conference with a perfect 6-0 record, will meet San Bernardino in a three game set next week as the Roadrunners continue their trek through conference foes.

    So far the Lady Roadrunners are 7-10 in the season which may not look so good but with all of the young players on the team, it is a good start. The Lady Roadrunners recently had two games which they split.

    A.J. Gonzalez keeps Rio undefeated in Foothill Conference play

    The Rio Hondo men's baseball team completed a sweep of College of the Desert with a dominating pitching display by freshman A.J. Gonzalez, who held COD to seven scoreless in Saturdays 6-1 victory.

    Battle of the Roadrunners

    It was a Roadrunner eat Roadrunner type of match on Feb. 8. The Rio Hondo gym hosted a men's basketball Foothill Conference match-up against College of the Deserts (COD) Roadrunners. Even though Rio had hecklers from COD in the bleachers, they still managed to walk away with a win, 86-80.

    Rio battles but comes up short against Canyons

    Rio Hondo's baseball team's first three games of the season are against teams ranked in the top 20 of Southern California. They matched up against number 11 ranked Canyons College on Feb. 4 at Rio and lost in a nail biter, 7-6.

    Baseball team starts off season with win

    Grand slam in third leads to season opening win, 10-4

    The Rio Hondo College baseball team avenged their 2011 playoff loss to Glendale College with a 10-4 victory that was highlighted by a grand slam homerun by catcher Cody Doyle in the season opener on Feb 3.

    Basketball team suffers biggest loss

    Rio Hondo's men's basketball team lost by a season high 44 points to the San Bernardino Valley College  Wolverines at home 98-54, on Feb. 1. The loss keeps RHC in last place of the Foothill Conference with only four games left in the season. The upcoming schedule has RHC matching up with two teams with sub .500 records and gives the Roadrunners an opportunity to climb out of last place.

    As we all might know, the California budget is in a crisis right now and schools are being hit hard. Many schools are being forced to cut certain programs or sports or maybe both. In the case of Rio Hondo, last year it was being discussed to disband its track program from its athletics. As they discussed it more and more, they came to the decision to go forward with disbanding the track program.

    Tennis team begins season

    Rio Hondo's Women's tennis team's season will be starting next week. Here's what Coach Karen Unger had to say about that. Last year, the team started off weak, losing all their pre-season matches. However, they were able to turn it around, once the season started. They won all their conference matches and eventually, also won their conference.  

  • Softball season preview

     

    Last season's women's softball team had many sophomores, so not many players returned this year. Out of the six sophomores that they had, only one player from last year's team returned. "This year's team has a lot of enthusiasm … they have a lot of heart", said head coach Bianca Urquidi about this season's team. She also said, "They have a lot of heart, so when they go out there they actually play for each other." This team has high praise from their coach.
