Burritos are delicious; they're big, beefy, juicy, and filling. When one buys a burrito, one would expect to be served something enormous. A Burrito by all means should never be less than eight inches in length and about four inches in width. A Burrito is something that needs to be held with two hands and could give the appearance of being capable of feeding around two average sized people.
When you think about taking a trip to a beach for some fun, what comes to mind? A nice hot day, filled with people walking through the sand throwing Frisbees and playing catch simply out having fun enjoying the beach in all its splendor. It is routine that these are scenes which are expected to be seen upon arriving to a beach. Well, according to new beach regulations it is now against the law to throw around objects such as footballs, Frisbees and all balls for that matter
Do you remember a couple months ago when all we could talk about was the ‘Occupy' movement? It was on everyone's mind and for the first time in a long time people were questioning authority. It was unlike anything I had seen before, because for once the people who were opposing the government weren't treated like complete loons.
Rapes, murder, harassment, abuse, molestation all these terms either have a different meaning or people just don't care anymore. Recently there was a case with a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, "molesting" little girls from ages 6-10, telling them to eat cookies with semen after blindfolding them.
If Kim Kardashian can marry twice and only for 72 days, why can't gays marry too? The U.S. appeals court in San Francisco ruled on Feb. 7 that Prop 8, which limited marriage to a man and woman was unconstitutional. I believe we all have a right to marry whoever we want for however long we want. The Declaration of Independence states that "We are all created equal" and that we all have "The right to the pursuit of happiness."
A revolution begins in various ways and for various reasons. There are leaders, culprits, and many painful stories behind every revolution. On the surface, the stories are always different, but the catalyst is always the same: a group of people, tired of oppression, who have been so tormented by their oppressor that they are willing to risk their lives and the lives of their loved ones in order to restore normalcy-whatever normalcy to them may be.
With the 2012 election fast approaching and as Republican presidential candidates ready themselves to take their best shot at Barack Obama, Americans will soon hear similar promises from most candidates.
The Republican debates have been going on for some time now and it's finally down to two candidates. (Don't tell Ron Paul that, though.) In one corner we have a man who looks so much like a president that if things don't work out for him, he could get casted as a president in a movie. I speak of none other than Mitt Romney. In the other corner it's the man who did whatever he could to take down Clinton back when he was in office; he also wants to rule the moon. I speak of Newt Gingrich. (Ron Paul is also running, but I never see any journalists talk about him as a serious candidate for some reason.)
By now you should all be acquainted with the house bill SOPA, and its cousin, senate bill, PIPA, but in case you aren't, here they are in a nutshell. PIPA, or the Protect IP act, was introduced last May by Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), and is designed to stop copyright infringement by "rouge" websites illegally sharing copyrighted material. It was put on hold immediately by opposing legislators.
According to a government survey, the average man spends a total of $168 on Valentine's Day alone. What a waste of money; dollars spent on red roses, diamond rings, gold necklaces, chocolate kisses, and a prolonged sumptuous dinner at The Olive Garden.
Valentine's Day is defined for adults as a day to spend with their significant other and to children it is a day to pass out mini Valentine's Day cards to their classmates and also receive them. There are many ways to spend Valentine's Day, you may go out for a nice quiet dinner, spend time at home cuddling with your mate or go out and have a fun date for example miniature golfing or Disneyland and enjoy being playful with one another.
Residents from the Whittier Hills haven't been so peaceful since the Matrix Oil Company came to drill oil from the wells 600 feet away from the citizens' houses. They have complained about the loud noises, flares and vibrations of the oil drilling from the wells. The situation is worse than that. The oil drilling is affecting residents who live near there.
We're officially less than a year away from the next presidential election and already you can see the politicians on both sides scrambling to find a way to stay relevant to all of us. However, I feel completely apathetic when it comes to any of them, regardless of their political affiliation.
As the winter rolls in, one has to wonder how the Occupy Wall Street encampments will handle the dropping temperatures of the holiday season. Given this is southern California, the occupiers here in LA have it easier than, lets say, New York. Still, only the die-hards and radical crazies will be able to hold down the camps over the next couple of months. Though it would be inspiring to see a freezing protester forgo the comfort of a warm Christmas with their families in order to change the world.
On August 19, 1989 Mark McPhail, an off duty police officer, was working as a security guard at a local Burger King late night in Savannah Georgia. After a homeless man started yelling for help McPhail rushed over to the homeless man where he was shot and killed moments later. The Next day a man went to the police department and said that Troy Davis was the shooter. Immediately wanted posters went up with reward money for the capture of this alleged cop killer. Police were warned he was armed and dangerous and ordered not to hesitate to shoot on sight because he would kill again.
Today's thoughts about medical marijuana are on the minds of most people. Mostly on the minds of college students suffering from insomnia or claiming it helps with the headaches they get from taking exams or the stress caused from the day-to-day life of their job. However, for the most part marijuana is useful for different types helpful things, not only for treatment of an illness or helping someone with stress or sleep disorders.
It comes as a huge surprise to me that any Republican candidate would have a problem with Mitt Romney's faith, or even say something about it, seeing as how they are all a bunch of bible thumping, smut-peddlers. If Romney shouldn't run based on his Mormon beliefs then Christian candidates shouldn't either. Or anyone who believes in anything, for that matter. No atheists, no Jews, no Muslims, no Catholics, no Buddhists. Come to think of it, politicians should just be empty shells, without opinions or thoughts of their own. Who simply follow what the people they are representing say.
Now that Libya has officially been liberated, the good people of Libya can now breathe easily knowing that they are free. They finally get the chance to live their lives as they choose to. Wait; is that an Al Qaeda flag flying over a courthouse in Libya? How wonderful. I obviously don't live in Libya, and I understand that starting over after a revolution is extremely difficult, but did you have to leave one oppressive regime for another?
Now is the time to make a difference
It's time for another Board of Trustees election and never has it been more important for students to go to the polls Nov. 8. There are eight candidates seeking election to two seats on the Rio Hondo Board in Areas 2 and 4, four running in each area. Running in Area 2, which is Pico Rivera, the Palm Park area of Whittier and some unincorporated West Whittier, are Fernando Centeno, John Lautzenhiser, Louis Reyes and Vicky Santana. In Area 4, which is Santa Fe Springs and parts of Norwalk, incumbent Gary Mendez, Ronald Gonzales-Lawrence, Margarita Macedonio and Frank Vasquez are seeking the seat.
Just recently the Occupy Wall Street protests have been gathering steam, the consequence of that is they have recently been receiving a lot of harassment from police officers. Now, I'm not some angry liberal who hates cops based on years of listening to punk music, in fact I generally like cops. I've never been harassed by any of them and on a few occasions they've actually helped me out of some serious jams. However, what I'm starting to see more and more of recently is that cops at these peaceful protests will go overboard when upholding the law.
Round one thousand five hundred and two, FIGHT! Wait! There's no boxing ring, no gloves and no referee! What's going on here? It's just that couple that doesn't seem to be able to comprehend that they don't belong together. Some couples never know when enough is enough, all the arguing, harboring anger, breaking up and making up and creating embarrassing public scenes time after time should be a clear indication that it's not working out.
The subject of race in any form, especially in comic books, is seldom approached. The lack of any racially diverse Marvel characters is wanting in recent years. This is even further agitated by the newest addition to the Ultimate universe character Spider-man, Miles Morales.
Greece is in big trouble. Huge trouble! They are in a serious debt crisis and need to pay back a part of the 300bneuros they owe at the end of this month. Why does this sound familiar? Oh yeah, everyone is in financial crisis! I guess not as bad as them, though. The reason anyone cares is, well, I don't know why anyone cares.
If you follow the news then you probably know that America is going through what some would call a total economic meltdown. People are losing their jobs and money is scarce for the average working class individual. On the other side of the spectrum many corporations (who are legally people) are making record profits and living in luxury. It has obviously come to a point in America where some people have decided to stand up against unfair treatment.
It wasn't too long ago that I was cheering for you. I remember the first time I saw you at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. I wasn't old enough to vote, but unlike many of my peers at the time I followed politics with a passion.
Increased enrollment obviously spawns higher demand for parking. The start of the new semester at Rio Hondo College means plenty of knowledge and success, but for most students the new semester means doubling up on five hour energy drinks just to survive parking.
Picking the number 11, the King Card, or even the color, purple, is how the professors regulate this game. During the first week of every semester, this game of luck plays out where student crashers are attempting to add a class by playing by the rules of the professors.
