LA County beach laws

When you think about taking a trip to a beach for some fun, what comes to mind? A nice hot day, filled with people walking through the sand throwing Frisbees and playing catch simply out having fun enjoying the beach in all its splendor. It is routine that these are scenes which are expected to be seen upon arriving to a beach.

Well, according to new beach regulations it is now against the law to throw around objects such as footballs, Frisbees and all balls for that matter which are considered to be dangerous during the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day on all Los Angeles County Beaches.

If that wasn't enough it is also illegal to dig a hole deeper than 18 inches or use vulgar language. What's next? Will we not be able to enjoy a tan, a dip in the water or have the simple right to tie our shoes on the beach? The basic notions of the new Los Angeles County Beach Laws are to protect the public from getting injured or being placed in an "at risk of injury" situation. If you are indeed caught breaking any of the fore mentioned laws, which now stand in action, the fines are as follows: $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second offence and up to $500 for a third time offence

Seriously? I mean, how many times has someone died or gotten severely injured during a fun friendly game of beach football? Although there might be that occasional scrape or slip, that seems to be the exception rather than the rule; but tossing a Frisbee, really? That's laughable, who dies or gets severely injured by a plastic, bendable, circle-shaped tossing device?

Although some people might see Frisbees as an inconvenience on beaches, due to their habit of just landing around others around the beach, I don't believe there has been many freak Frisbee accidents (again there are exceptions). However, all in all the public will find ways around these laws to continue to have fun at a place where the primary objective is to enjoy oneself. So make sure if you are planning a trip to the beach, plan accordingly and make sure you don't squint or sneeze too hard there might be fines for that in the future as well.
