Dr. JoAnna Downey has been appointed Acting Vice-President of Academic Affairs until an interim appointment can be made in February, according to Dr. Ted Martinez, president of the college.

Downey will take over the chores of the vice-presidency following the resignation of Dr. Paul Parnell, who has been the vice-president since 2008.  No reason for Parnell's resignation was given, but his contract was not renewed by the Board a few months ago.

"We all appreciated his (Parnell) humor and easy-going style," Martinez said via email.

Parnell resigned effective Dec. 14 and Downey took over the position on Dec. 15.  She will stay as acting until an interim vice-president can be hired.

Martinez said that the interim position will begin processing in February and he or she will serve the college during the search for a permanent replacement.

Downey will continue her duties as Dean of Arts while being the acting vice-president.
