  • Eco-friendly shuttle New eco-friendly student shuttle

    Starting this spring semester, a new shuttle bus has been added to help Rio Hondo students with the commute up the campus's hills. This new eco-friendly bus, El Dorado National AeroElite Ford F-550 CNG, runs on compressed natural gas (CNG). The other shuttles that the school has been using run on diesel fuel.     

  • Black History Month nears end

     

    The Associated Student Body hosted a panel discussion and film screenings in honor of Black History Month. 
    Commemorating those who have made an impact, February is a time to recognize the role that African Americans have made in the course of the United States history. The celebration began on Feb. 8 with Dean of Counseling Dr. Walter Jones as the guest speaker and a special performance by Steppers from Cal State Dominguez Hills in the Middle Quad from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. 

  • Forensics debate and showcase

     

    The Sunset Cliffs Tournament dubbed the "Blood Bath by the Sea" is how forensics students would describe their last speech debate at Point Loma Nazarine University in San Diego. From Feb. 3-6, participants of the speech team faced their toughest tournament yet with a wide range of topics covering areas of assimilation, civil rights, women's relationships as well as interpersonal relationships. 

  • Club Rush 2012 Martinez and students Clubs ‘rush’ to seek new members

    Club Rush occurred on Feb. 21 and Feb. 22 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. out on the Rio Hondo Breezeway between the back of the Wray Theatre and in front of the Rio Café. Club Rush is an opportunity for clubs to recruit people for their clubs and a chance for students to join a club that they  are interested in or get information about a particular club.

  • JoAnna Downey Downey now interim Vice-President

    Acting Vice President JoAnna Downey has been appointed the interim position of Vice-President of Academic Affairs on Feb. 13. When Dr. Paul Parnell resigned as Vice-President, there was a need for someone to be placed in that position quickly therefore Downey stepped in. Parnell resigned his position on Dec. 14 and Downey has been the acting vice president since Dec. 15.   

  • Drinks Late night munchies

    Affordable, late-night eateries are not very easy to come by. Either a cheap restaurant closes too early, or a joint that is open late is just too pricy for the average college budget. For those in need of a local 24-hour restaurant that will not make you eat your meal out in the cold of the night, look no further. Ordonez Mexican Restaurant on N. Garfield Ave in the city of Montebello offers a tasty, reasonably priced menu any time of day.

  • Burrito blasphemy

     

    Burritos are delicious; they're big, beefy, juicy, and filling. When one buys a burrito, one would expect to be served something enormous. A Burrito by all means should never be less than eight inches in length and about four inches in width. A Burrito is something that needs to be held with two hands and could give the appearance of being capable of feeding around two average sized people.

  • LA County beach laws

     

    When you think about taking a trip to a beach for some fun, what comes to mind? A nice hot day, filled with people walking through the sand throwing Frisbees and playing catch simply out having fun enjoying the beach in all its splendor. It is routine that these are scenes which are expected to be seen upon arriving to a beach. Well, according to new beach regulations it is now against the law to throw around objects such as footballs, Frisbees and all balls for that matter

  • Death of occupy

    Do you remember a couple months ago when all we could talk about was the ‘Occupy' movement? It was on everyone's mind and for the first time in a long time people were questioning authority. It was unlike anything I had seen before, because for once the people who were opposing the government weren't treated like complete loons. 

  • Abusive teacher or abusive parents?

    Rapes, murder, harassment, abuse, molestation all these terms either have a different meaning or people just don't care anymore. Recently there was a case with a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, "molesting" little girls from ages 6-10, telling them to eat cookies with semen after blindfolding them.
