Hannah Pastrano meeting

El Paisano

Members of the CSEA classified workers union attended special board meeting concerning Hannah Pastrano Aug. 30

Rio Hondo College's Board of Trustees still has not decided what to do with Hannah Pastrano, who resigned her position as Student Activities Assistant amid an alleged misuse of student funds.

The Board met Aug. 30 in executive session, but did not come up with a solution and took no action.

Pastrano was allegedly reprimanded for using school funds to pay a student for services rendered and was suspended around the first of July.  Pastrano then resigned from her position, but not voluntarily.

A source close to the situation said that "Hannah wasn't fired.  She resigned.  I really can't get into the specifics of it, because it is a confidential personnel matter, but I can tell you that Hannah did something she was not supposed to do."

The source said that Pastrano went to the CSEA executive board, which she was on, to let the members know what had happened and that she had told her immediate supervisor, Cathy Butler.

The source continued, "She did not do it for any personal or monetary gain.  It was in the interests of a student.  If anyone knows anything about Hannah, it is that her heart has always been with the students."

The source said that the CSEA felt that it could have ended with a written reprimand, but the immediate supervisor (Butler) decided to take it further uyp the chain of command and report.

The source added that El Paisano was kept "in the dark intentionally" about what happened.

Neither Butler nor Pastrano replied to El Paisano emails about the incident.
