Beating vampires to death

What's so exciting about vampires? Don't get me wrong, I dig the whole blood sucking thing because I enjoy unworldly characters just like werewolves and monsters. In fiction stories that is. However, there has been an increasing hype over vampirism from all forms of media, it seems that big TV and film industries are jumping on a money train to feed the popular demand.… Post the First Comment

Cafeteria food nightmare

I have no idea what has happened to the thought of "health food" here at Rio Hondo College, it's almost as if the cafeteria means to serve greasy, artery clogging food, without the concern of anybody's health. I've only been coming to Rio for about 2 semesters, and I usually tried to pack my lunch at home, so I wouldn't have to spend money on the overly priced food sold here, but occasionally I would forget, so I had to resort on going to that horrid place called the cafeteria.… Post the First Comment

Commemorating our veterans

On Veterans Day President Barack Obama gave a speech at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia saying "While it is important and proper that we mark this day, it is far more important we spend all our days determined to keep the promises that we've made to all who answer this country's call.… Post the First Comment

My call to monkhood

For some time now I have contemplated to idea of abandoning the cycle one faces here in daily life, the momentary joy, confusion, stagnation, and search for the momentary joy again, in exchange for an inner fulfillment that does not depend on any circumstance.… Post the First Comment

The life and death of horror movies

I remember the first time I saw the Exorcist, I was plagued with nightmares for weeks, months and years on in. It is the frightening tale of a young lady possessed by a demon and her mother's rigorous attempts to have it extricated from her daughter's body through an exorcism.… Post the First Comment

The turtles in the hall

This past semester we have all suffered from the huge increase in student population, parking hell, registration frustration, and lines that look like you're at Disneyland. Whatever, that's life. What drives me abso-freaking-lutely mad is when I'm late to my class on account of a group of divas using the walkways as 'gossip time', and they always have to be in the MIDDLE of the ENTIRE hallway! I don't mind the iPhone addict nor do I mind the other distractions in class- the teacher checks that, it's their room.… Post the First Comment

We're slipping, we've fallen, and we need to get up

Due in part to President Obama's recent trip to Asia some issues were illuminated to me that struck me as interesting, if not odd. Plastered all over cables news networks like CNN and FOX news network was the repeating flash of news discussing an allegedly "big" event.… Post the First Comment

Zero tolerance misses bigger picture

Having been raised in a family full of educators I feel it's safe to say that I have an intimate understanding of the "Zero Tolerance Policy" enforced on most school grounds. Typically, the rule implies that illegal substances and violence will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and those involved in these forbidden acts will suffer severe disciplinary action.… Post the First Comment
