General Information
The student run newspaper's Advisor John Francis has created a team to bring the paper up to its full potential as a resource to Rio's students, staff and the surrounding community. They are Kathy Johnson, executive director and James Tapparo, executive director of advertising.
Both members have been on staff for over two years and have previously been editor-in-chief of the print edition, as well as, holding many other positions on the paper.
Advertising Director: JamesTapparo is also the technical adviser for the paper and as advertising director, he has increased ad sales by approximately 800%. He has previously been the editor-in-chief of the print edition, writer, photographer, layout designer, cartoonist and more since 2001.
As the Tech Adviser since 2003, Tapparo helps students learn Quark a newspaper and magazine layout program, Photoshop and basic Mac, as well as managing the technical equipment for the class, which includes computers, cameras and sound equipment and more.
Executive Director: Kathy Johnson has also held all the positions available at the paper including being editor-in-chief from a full year instead of the usual one semester. She plans on transferring to either UCLA or CSF, and will graduate at the end of this semester with two degrees, which are an AS in Mass Media - specializing in Print Media (Journalism) and an AA in Liberal Arts that concentrated on social sciences. She earned Deans honors for both semesters last year, also was outstanding student that year, and she is a permanent member of Alpha Gamma Sigma Honors Society.
