The film depicts the cocky young D'Artagnan along with three former legends turned has beens, The Three Musketeers, who unite to defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.

The excursion all begins with the conniving love letters implemented by the villainous employer Richelieu(Waltz) with the help of the gorgeous double agent Milady (Jovovich),to ruin young King Louis XIII (Freddie Fox) and his wife, Queen Anne's (Juno Temple) marriage.

The letters were false love letters from The Duke of Buckingham (Bloom).

Milady steals Queen Anne's diamond necklace and hides it in the Tower of London with the purpose of framing Queen Anne of having an affair with the Duke of Buckingham.

The affair would force King Louis to execute Queen Anne and declare war on England. At this point, the people would demand a more experienced leader for the country: Richelieu himself. Before leaving, Milady demands that Richelieu gives her an authorization declaring that she was working on behalf of France's best interest.

With the help of D'Artagnan's love interest Constance (Gabriella Wilde) The Three Musketeers and D'Artagnan venture off to detain this evil plot.
